p>In 1973 Killanena joined with feakle, Tulla AND Bodoyke to form the Feakle Shamrocks senior team. The feakle shamrocks competed in the Clare senior championship and the Clare cup of that year. In 1974 the feakle shamrocks combination ended and it was replaced by the Brian Boru team made up of players from Killanena, bodoyke andTulla.<br><br>
Paddy Canny was the killanena representative of the selection committee. In 1975, the Brian boru’s captured the Clare senior championship when they defeated Eire OG in the final. Killanena had six representatives on the Brian borus squad.<br>

Paddy brody, Joe Sammon, Dennis Sammon, Kevin Kennedy, Joe Brady and John Walsh.<br>

This had a profound effect on the killanena Club. The experience gained by these players helped them to backbone the killanena junior team that won the 1977 Junior A Championship in a replay with Corofin. The club also won the 1976 league title when they beat Cratloe in the final, which was played in October 1977. Paddy Canny, Fr. Pat o neill, Marty Moloney who gave great service to the club, paddy moloney6, another, another excellent club man, and paddy brody were the selectors. Paddy brody was one of the most popular player of this era. Team: Michael Carey, jimmy Collins, Dennis Sammon, john Walsh, pat McNamara, Joe Sammon, Brian Glynn, Paddy Brody, Ger. Hoey, martin Glynn, Kevin Kennedy, Roger Carey, Pat Conlon, Joe Joe Horan, Cyrel Conlon, Fr. Pat O Neill, Mr Michael Glynn, John Canny, Michael Moloney, Michael Leonard, John Mc namara. Brian Borus won the delayed the 1976 Clare Cup when they beat Sixmilebridge in 1977.<br>

Paddy Canny was at the helm of the Killanena Club and Fr. Pat O neill was the team trainer.<br>

The Club fielded its own minor team for the first time in 1979 up to that we had assisted Feakle in minor and u21 grades.<br>

The Brian Borus amalgamation ceased to exist, and in 1980 Scarrif and Killanena combined to form the Graney Rovers. They failed to achieve success, being defeated By St. Brendan’s IN THE SEMI Final.<br>

The under 16 team won the first ever underage title for the club, when they won the under 16 c Championship in 1981. Fr.Pat O Neill was the trainer. The Club reached the first the first of two consecutive intermediate final appearances when we played Scarrif in 1982 final in Tulla. - Having beaten Cratloe in a replay to win the semi-final hopes was high for the final. The game was very close and in the end Scarrif won by one point . 0-12 to 1-8,<br>
Toby o meara in goal for Chilean won the man of the match. In the same year the club fielded its own u21 team team for the first time. <br>

In 1983 the club had a great run in the intermediate championship and reached the final. There we met Wolf Tones, and the game was played in a downpour. Wolf Tones won the game. The miner team won the minor team won the minor league.<br>

The Centenary year 1984 was memorable. The under 21 team won the U21 C title, the Intermediate team reached the final of the intermediate league and Flagmount National school won division 4 of the primary Schools hurling. The new Club grounds were purchased in that year.<br>

In the mid 1980s we reached the final stages of the underage competitions and at senior level provided assistance to Crusheen as Crusheen Fenians.<br>

In 1990 a turning point came when the Club had to revert back to junior A status, due to lack of players. In that year the U16 players reached the C final.<br>
<br>
The following year 1991, the U12 team wonit first ever title when they beat Kilkee in the D final Cusack Park.Ger Hoey and jimmy Collins were the team selectors. Former Galway star Steve Mahon trained the junior team.1989 saw the club win its first ever minor championship title when the minor team beat Ogonnelloe in the final played in the Cusack Park. David Mcnanara as an inspirational captain, leading his team by example.<br>
Killanena won by one point with the the winning score coming from full forward Niall McNamara in the final moments.<br>

The management team of Michael Carey, Toby o meara and Josie Harte can take great credit for their work with with the team.<br>

The minor team won the minor C title for the second time in 1992 when they had a 2-5 to 1-7 win over Parteen in the final played in Tulla. Team Captain Liam McNamara gave an outstanding display at centre- back scoring the winning point. Team managers Pat o neill And John Walsh had the team very well played for the final.<br>
<br>
Following Clare’s win in the Munster Football Final killanena fielded its first its first football teams in 1993.<br>
<br>
The U12 team defeated Feakle in the 1994-D final played in Bodoyke.<br>
The junior A team team repeated history by winning the championship and league. In the championship we beat Parteen in the final, on a score of 1:10 to 1<br>
:8. Toby O Meara was captain. We overcame wolf tones in the league final.<br>

 

 

The hurling pitch today
